‘Special reservation will empower women’
KATHMANDU: Vice chairperson of Constitutional Assembly Purna Kumari Subedi today said women should be granted special reservation for a certain time for their empowerment.
Addressing an interaction programme organised by women caucus of CA for specifying the concerns of women in the new constitution, Subedi said she would make efforts for ensuring special rights of Janajati, Dalit, Muslim and marginalised women. She said women needed to be involved in the development process.
CA member Mohammadi Siddiqui said they were collecting the views of women lawmakers to be included in the draft of the constitution.
Krishna Hatachue, professor at the Central Department of Political Science, Tribhuvan University, said most women CA members were actively participating for the cause of women. He added that quota for women was important for the sake of their equality, identity and justice.
Hatachue said traditional patriarchal belief and discriminatory rules had hindered the development of women. He added that women had not been able to come to the field of politics, openly. He further said the women should be provided skill development training, besides ensuring reservation in education, health and employment sectors.
