‘Take conservation, nationalism together’

KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today told the 15 students selected to be the green ambassadors to carry on the message of national unity along with the message of nature conservation.

"The political condition is fragile and the national unity is threatened so the only thing the mountains, hills and Tarai could be integrated with is environment," Dr Yadav told them at his office in Shital Niwas. "The people of Tarai are unaware that hills are their source of water. The people of hills and mountain are also not serious on the issue that the food produced in the Tarai is the energy for their life. Students like you should focus on the unity that environment provides and flow the message of conservation along with that of national unity," he told the students.

Fifteen school students were declared as the green ambassadors by Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation and National Trust for Nature Conservation.

The ambassadors also met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal at his office in Singhadurbar and expressed their commitment to work for nature conservation. "The students are the ones who can deliver the message to the community in the most effective way. I hope you will perform your jobs responsibly," he told them.

"We are really enthusiastic and it's our pleasure to get the opportunity. We promise to work for nature conservation. We degraded the environment and we are the ones to revitalise it," said Laxmi Lama of Balsudhar High school.

"The 15 students had contributed a lot during plantation programmes in local areas, besides meeting other requirements to be the ambassadors," said environment minister Deepak Bohora. The students are flying to Bangkok on September 4 on a five-day study tour. "They will learn about the conservation techniques in Bangkok and apply it in our country. They will also attend the 58th anniversary of UNEP there," Said Dr Siddhartha Bajracharya of NTNC. Back from Bangkok, each member will deliver the message to conserve the forest and natural environment in schools in five districts.
