LALITPUR: The government is eying Shyame Kholsi in Nuwakot district to dump the garbage generated in Kathmandu and Lalitpur as the storage capacity of the existing landfill site in Aletar is about to be exhausted.

Aletar Landfill Site in Nuwakot -- 26 kilometres from Kathmandu--came into operation in August last year. It's life was estimated for about 14 months.

According to the Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre, its life is going to end earlier than expected since the amount of post-closure soil used there was three times more than the amount of garbage. Apart from that, the protesting locals of Aletar have erected mounds to halt the dumping.
