Amend Interim Constitution: Giri

KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly (CA) member Sarita Giri, representing Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Aanandidevi) has registered an amendment bill at the CA seeking removal of the provision of state of emergency for the six-months that could be extended, in case the Constituent Assembly fails to promulgate the constitution in two years time.

“People cannot freely participate in the process and that would curtail fundamental rights,”she said at a press conference today. Giri has sought amendment to the conditional clause of Article 64 of the interim constitution, which provisions that CA may be extended up to an additional six months. The extension needed proclamation of state of emergency, however, and hence needed amendment, Giri clarified.
