Amendment bill will be passed with further revision, says Thakur
KATHMANDU: A senior leader of the United Democratic Madhesi Front and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur claimed that the Constitution amendment bill would be passed along with another amendment proposal that the Madhesi lawmakers would propose.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by the Reporters' Club Nepal in Kathmandu on Thursday, Thakur said that the Constitution amendment bill would be passed with the two thirds majority if supported by the Nepali Congress and the CPN Maoist Centre.
Mentioning that those who brought the Constitution themselves had accepted it as incomplete; Thakur said the Constitution was discriminatory.
Thakur further said that Article 274 of the Constitution would not hinder for its amendment.
The veteran leader also said that as present Parliament was transformed from the then Constitution Assembly, it could amend the Constitution itself.
Meanwhile, he also hoped the support of CPN-UML for passing the Constitution amendment bill.
