Anger on social media as vehicle escorting ex-PM hits scooter

People have expressed anger on social media after a video that shows a police van escorting former prime minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand hit a two-wheeler in an attempt to overtake it from wrong-side yesterday evening went viral.
In the video, a white four-wheeler of former PM Chand is seen speeding past the some two-wheelers on Babarmahal-Baneshwor road segment. The vehicle is followed by the escorting vehicle of Armed Police Force’s four-wheeler (Ba 1 Jha 9527). The vehicle carrying Chand overtakes the motorbike, but the escorting vehicle hits a scooter while it tries to overtake from the wrong side.
However, the escorting vehicle did not stop even as the bike was laying flat on the road.
Luckily, the biker rider and the pillion rider did not suffer serious injuries. Spokesperson for APF Deputy Inspector General Suraj Kumar Shrestha said they had started investigation into the incident and action would be taken against the guilty.
Similar promise was made by Superintendent of Police Jay Raj Sapkota of Metropolitan Traffic Police Division.
“We have sent a letter to APF to provide the details of AFP personnel deployed to escort the former PM.
Meanwhile, the rider of the motorbike Santosh Kunwar has visited the former prime minister Chand at the latter’s residence. Kunwar said former PM talked to him for some time and said that he was compensate him.
