Kathmandu, May 9:
While all other tenants renting rooms at the Rato Ghar at Ratna Park vacated the house, the ANNFSU has defied the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s order.
The pro-UML student body has said the order to evacuate the house is politically motivated and that the issue was linked with their political significance.
“We are ready to fight and we will not leave this place because it is associated with our political significance,” said Bal Gopal Upadhyaya, central member at ANNFSU.
The ANNFSU had been renting rooms since 1990.
Most of the central members and student activists of the ANNFSU were guarded their office till late in the evening and refused to vacate their rooms. The members said that they were aware of the fact that security persons would use force to vacate their rooms but at the same time said they would guard the rooms tomorrow also.
Other tenants of the building, Nepal Cancer Relief Society, Geeta Samudaya Prakashan and four other shops vacated the building today.
Meanwhile, ANNFSU today felicitated some 50 released detainees including Yagya Raj Sunuwar, secretary at ANNFSU who was released recently after three months’ detention. Ram Kumar Basnet, vice president of ANNFSU felicitated the released detainees.
