Kathmandu, August 1
CPN-Maoist aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary today submitted a 17-point memorandum to the Ministry of Education demanding development in the education sector.
A team of ANNISU-R cadres, led by the union’s chairperson Purna Bahadur Singh, today met Laba Deo Awasthi, acting secretary at MoE, and demanded access, opportunity, improvement in quality, scrapping of the hiked education fee and abiding by the educational calendar, among others.
ANNISU-R General Secretary Dipendra Chalaune, valley coordinator Lokesh Bishwokarma, Narayan Nepal and Ganesh Rauka, among others, were also present.
The team also demanded that educational consultancies be monitored and regulated. They alleged that these consultancies were promoting brain drain.
Demanding that the education ministry prohibit education fairs organised by foreigners in the country, Singh said, “Consultancies should be made accountable and not profit-oriented.”
Singh added that the trend of appointing university officials on the basis of political power sharing should end and capable and eligible persons should be appointed. He also stated that the TU Service Commission should be made transparent and fair.
Addressing ANNISU-R cadres, Awasthi said he would create a conducive environment to meet their genuine demands.
