Appointments of judges in appellate courts in offing
Kathmandu, January 22:
The Judicial Council headed by Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri is doing homework for appointment of a number of additional judges in the Appellate Courts after over a decade.
The council is doing homework to appoint judges in the 33 vacant posts of judges in the appellate courts.
To deal with the workload, the Judicial Council may appoint a number of additional judges as per the need.
The Judicial Council had appointed appellate court judges 12 ago. “We may appoint additional judges if needed,” said Basudev Dhungana, a member of the Judicial Council.
“However, we are still analysing whether the additional posts are required or not,” he added.
General Secretary of Nepal Bar Association, Raman Kumar Shrestha, opposed the idea.
“There is no need of additional judges in the appellate courts as there is no serious workload,” he added.
“It would be unacceptable if the plan is framed to promote district judges and appoint some lawyers to the additional posts,” he said.
