Araniko highway tense after minibus kills one

Bhaktapur, August 13:

The Sallaghari area along Araniko Highway in Bhaktapur remained tense throughout the day today after a minibus knocked a pedestrian this morning.

Injured Rajaram Budathoki, 28, of Duwakot VDC- 2, Bhaktapur, was rushed to B&B hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The minibus heading from Kathmandu to Bhaktapur rolled 10 metres down the road after its driver lost control of the vehicle. Passengers of the bus sustained minor injuries.

The driver and the helper fled after the accident. Infuriated over the incident, locals vandalised the minibus, Sub-Inspector Ramji Shrestha said.

Locals obstructed traffic movement by burning tyres on the highway in Sallaghari and nearby areas throughout the day. They also set a motorbike ablaze.

Police rained batons on locals and detained some people to control the situation.

Six people, who were injured in the baton charge, are undergoing treatment in Bhaktapur Hospital, Shrestha said. Four arrestees were released in the evening, he said.
