Armed gang attacks revellers at Lalitpur wedding reception

KATHMANDU: Three people sustained injuries after a group of armed men attacked revellers at a wedding reception in Devichaur, on the southern outskirts of Lalitpur, on Thursday night. The assailants, who are said to be local residents, had used a sword and a homemade gun, according to police.

The injured are identified as Prabesh Tamang (24) , Sonam Tamang (20) and Surya Tamang (22).  The trio were taken to the Patan Hospital for treatment.

According police, a group of locals, including Manik Thing (35), Raj Kumar Thing (32), Bishal Thing (24) and Amit Thing (23), had attacked the wedding attendants following a dispute over playing music during the party. Shots were also fired during the attack.

Sonam and Surya were discharged from the hospital, while  Prabesh, who was hit by bullet shrapnel, was referred to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for further treatment, police said.

A team deployed from the Chapagaun-based Metropolitan Police Circle and Tikabhairav Police Post detained 15 people and confiscated the weapons used during the attack for for investigation into the case.
