KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Anil Kumar Sinha, has ruled out granting any form of monopoly to the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
Speaking at a meeting of the Committee for Legislation Management under the National Assembly in Singha Durbar on Monday, Minister Sinha stated that since the NMA is registered under the Organization Registration Act, 2034 BS, like any other citizen-initiated organization, it would be inappropriate and legally unjustifiable to grant it exclusive authority.
He further clarified that establishing legal provisions to favor a single organization would not be suitable in the country's evolving context and would contradict the principles of federalism.
While acknowledging the NMA's "incomparable" contributions to the mountaineering sector, Minister Sinha emphasized the need to examine the organization's origins and structure. He noted that the NMA was founded by a small group of individuals who registered it under the Organization Registration Act and have since expanded its operations significantly.
"There are many other organizations of a similar nature. Therefore, granting the NMA a monopoly is out of the question," he remarked.
