Army set to take stock of security scenario
To discuss CA election issues too
Kathmandu, September 3:
The Nepal Army is to review the overall security situation across the country and also discuss on issues related to the Constituent Assembly (CA) election in a ‘coordination meeting’ scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
The meeting would also analyse the progress of its five Division Headquarters and Valley Division. Asked why the Army should discuss CA polls when it is not going to be mobilised like in previous elections, a top army officer, based in Kathmandu, and invited to attend the coordination meeting told this daily: “The Army will discuss on CA election as it is everyone’s concern.”
He said that the “current situation” would also feature in the meeting. “This is like an annual meeting and would review the prevailing security situation and formulate strategies accordingly,” said another senior officer also based in Kathmandu.
The meeting would also discuss on the status of training, accommodation and logistic in the Divisions. Commanders Pawan Jung Thapa of the eastern division, Toran Jung Bahadur Singh of the central division, Gaurav Shumsher Rana of western division, Ananta Thebe of mid-western division and Anil Jung Thapa of far-western division are attending the meeting.
The heads of the directorates and departments would also brief the meeting.
Asked if the meeting would discuss on the series of blasts in the Valley yesterday, the officers said that it was “not in anyway related” with it.
“The meeting will review the current state of its Valley division and even informally discuss the blasts, but the meeting is not planned for discussing what happened yesterday,” said the officers.
