The annual report of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) for the fiscal year 2024/25 has been submitted to President Ramchandra Paudel.
At a programme organised at Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday, Attorney General Sabita Bhandari presented the report to the President.
The report outlines the activities carried out by the OAG and its subordinate offices during the fiscal year 2024/25.
Of the total cases, writs and applications filed by public prosecutors, 75,165 disputes were resolved, with 66.34 per cent decided in favour of the government.
The OAG and its subordinate offices issued mediation orders in 2,612 cases involving 3,075 defendants. Similarly, decisions were taken not to proceed with prosecution against 4,841 individuals implicated in 4,527 cases.
During the past fiscal year, legal opinions were sought from the OAG and its subordinate offices on 52 issues; however, advice was provided on only 47 of them.
The number of cases, writs and applications in which the OAG and its offices represented or argued on behalf of the government stood at 127,409. Likewise, the Government of Nepal was named as a defendant in 105,036 cases, while 16,514 writs and 5,859 other applications were filed against the government. This figure represents a decrease of 3.90 per cent compared to the previous fiscal year.
As mandated by Article 159(1) of the Constitution, the Attorney General is required to submit the OAG's annual report to the Head of State each year.
