Awareness to minimise road accidents

KATHMANDU: Sanskar Samaj Nepal has run a public awareness initiative at New Bus Park, Gongabu to minimise road accidents during the festival time.

Considering the pressure of travellers heading home for Dashain, Tihar and Chhat festivals, the organisation began a four-day awareness programme, on Friday.

Under the initiative that runs from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, bus drivers, passengers and the general public are informed about various issues related to road traffic, which includes informing traffic police in case of violation of traffic rules.

Sanskar Samaj Nepal has also been running various traffic awareness programmes at different locations of Kathmandu valley, according to its chair, Pashupati Gurung.

More than 2,000 passenger buses leave New Bus Park every day since Dashain began last week. A help desk has also been set up at the bus park premises at the joint initiative of the Department of Transport Management and Metropolitan Traffic Police Division.

The help desk is expected to help travellers solve their problems relating to their travels and ticketing, said General Secretary of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, Saroj Sitoula.
