Bagmati Clean-up Campaign reaches 124th week
KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Clean-up Campaign has collected 22 metric tonnes of garbage from Bagmati River in Balkhu and its surrounding areas. The Campaign, launched from May 18, 2013, reached the 124th week today.
On the occasion, Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi said that no one should make river dirty as it is the right of people to live in a healthy environment.
Similarly, former Chief Secretary Leelamani Paudyal said that the Bagmati River is becoming cleaner with the support from all sides.
Representative of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilisation (HPCIDBC) Mala Kharel, representative of Research Development Centre Nepal, Narayan Gyawali, and a local social worker Mohan Basnet, said that now the Clean-up Campaign should be taken ahead with new momentum and Kathmandu Valley folks should be serious for cleanliness and conservation of the Bagmati River.
Various people including employees at government offices and other organisations, security personnel, locals and campaigners were present on the occasion.
