KATHMANDU, AUGUST 3
Amid an ongoing intra-party rift within the Nepali Congress, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama announced his resignation during a press conference held at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Hetauda on Sunday.
He informed that although he attempted to submit his resignation to the Provincial Chief, Deepak Prasad Devkota, earlier in the evening, the Provincial Chief was not present at his office.
Chief Minister Lama is scheduled to formally submit his resignation letter on Monday.
Lama stepped down after losing the parliamentary party leader position to fellow party member Indra Bahadur Baniya on July 30. Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba had also directed Lama to resign following the leadership change within the parliamentary party.
Addressing the media, Lama said he believed in upholding political values and norms and emphasized the importance of working under party leadership. He stated that his resignation was in line with this principle.
Lama further expressed his commitment to move forward in cooperation with the newly elected parliamentary party leader, Indra Bahadur Baniya, in the Provincial Assembly.
