Bagmati to construct ropeways

HETAUDA, DECEMBER 20

Bagmati Province is set to construct ropeways in different parts of the province to ease transportation.

The ministry has begun a study for constructing ropeway and cableway in Indrasarowar of Makawanpur, Gosaikunda of Rasuwa and Dolakha, according to provincial Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Development Rameswar Phuyal.

Minister Phuyal said the ministry was engaged in various rounds of discussion to develop a detail project report and begin construction of the ropeways.

“The increase in power production in the country provides us a ground to promote electricity-based transport,” he said, adding that the provincial government was also studying the feasibility for gravity ropeway that could be run without any energy supply.

He also said that a study would be carried out to see if the Hetauda-Kathmandu ropeway could be brought back to life. The ropeway was built 102 years ago during the premiership of Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher.
