Bandh against new recruiting provisions

Kathmandu, August 12:

Traffic movement in various places of the capital was disrupted today after Tribhuvan University (TU) students called a bandh demanding that the government scrap the provisions of automatic and permanent appointment and automatic promotion in civil service and TU vacancies.

The independent students’ TU Central Struggle Committee called the bandh and said they did not belong to any political outfit or their students’ wings.

Govinda Pokharel, a member of the TU Struggle Committee, said the bandh was called to oppose the new provisions of automatic and permanent appointment and automatic promotion to those who joined government and TU services in the past.

“Fresh graduates must be given chance of free competition in all civil service and TU vacancies and the new provisions must be scrapped,” Pokharel said.

He said that the TU Service Commission had not opened fresh vacancies for the past 12 years and deprived the fresh graduates from competing for various vacancies.
