Base health policies on research, says Yadav

Kathmandu, August 21

Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav said all plans and policies concerning health services should be formulated on the basis of available research data.

Speaking at a programme organised by Nepal Health Research Council here today, Yadav said insights from research data would help formulate sound laws and policies in the health sector.

“The central government has been working on the basis of available data and is, thus, managing health programmes throughout the country. In the same way, local governments should also conduct scientific research to identify problems and formulate rules and regulations based on such study,” Yadav said. He added formulation of policies based on research would help deliver sustainable impact on public health. Such attempts would also help in meeting sustainable development goals that have been committed by the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Chair of Nepal Health Research Council Dr Anjani Kumar Jha said NHRC has been conducting health researches which aided in formulating health related policies. NHRC has been conducting researches on communicable and non-communicable diseases, environmental pollution, and global warming, among others. “Such studies have helped formulate sound laws and their effective implementation.”

Jha stressed it was necessary to teach students to conduct relevant scientific research. “Valid research is recognised by international forums and it provides positive message to international forums.”
