Bhadra 29 proposed as new Children’s Day
Kathmandu, August 13 :
In the changed political scenario Bhadra 29 has been proposed as a day for this year’s 42nd National Children’s Day instead of the long-established Bhadra 4.
The Nepal Children’s Organisation, Naxal, has been coordinating for the celebration of the National Children’s Day on Bhadra 4 for the past 41 years coinciding with the birthday of Queen Mother Ratna.
A meeting held between Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Centre for Child Welfare Board and various organisations working for children proposed Bhadra 29 for the celebration, marking the day that Nepal ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990. The proposal will soon be presented in the cabinet for its approval and implementation.
Following the United Nations General Assembly Special Session’s Declaration ‘A World Fit for Children’, the government of Nepal has prepared 10 Year Action Plan for Children.
