Bid to form TRC through ordinance draws flak

Kathmandu, March 3:

The Conflict Victims’ Society for Justice-Nepal (CVSJN) today submitted a memorandum along with 1,460 signatures to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel, condemning the government’s plan to form various commissions, including the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) through ordinances.

The Society flayed the government for initiating the process of issuing ordinances for commissions concerning the conflict victims without holding dialogue with the victims concerned and the organisations representing the victims.

The Society has put forward a charter of nine demands, which includes establishment of comprehensive transitional justice structure, discussion and consultation before taking any decision concerning the victims.
