KATHMANDU: The major three parties on Thursday held a joint meeting with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) in a bid to convince the latter to come back to the constitution drafting process.

The fourth largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA) had announced to withdraw from the constitution drafting process on Wednesday.

Three major parties -- Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and UCPN-Maoist -- had invited the RPP-N for talks at the PM's residence today.

RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa tweeted after the meeting that the "major" four parties held a joint meeting for the first time over constitutional issues.

Meanwhile, emerging from the meeting, Thapa said that his party quit the process as three parties boycotted their voices and tried to promulgate the constitution without resolving the Tarai protests.

Terming the meeting positive, RPP-N Chief Whip Dilnath Giri said the party would take a right decision if three parties expressed a written commitment to involve him his party in the process and resolve the Terai crisis before the constitution promulgation.

Send joint letter

Meanwhile, the three parties sent a joint letter to Thapa asking him to return to the CA process.

PM's press advisor Prakash Adhikari said the letter signed by NC President Sushil Koirala, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged Thapa and his party to review the party decision to fulfill the people's desire to see a constitution made by their representatives, which was overdue since long.

“Withdrawing from the constitution writing process by any party or any lawmaker will not be happy for any of us in this historical time,” the letter reads.
