Bishwokarma Puja being observed

KATHMANDU: Bishwokarma Puja, a Hindu festival, is being observed across the country today.

The day, which falls on the first day of the month of Ashwin as per the solar calendar, is observed primarily by artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers and factory workers wishing for safe working conditions and success in their respective fields.

It is also observed to pray for smooth functioning of various machines.

On the day, special statues and pictures of Bishwokarma, the divine architect, decorated with flowers and vermilion powder, are normally installed in every workplace and factory.

All workers gather in a common place and perform the Puja. Various cultural programmes are also held.

The festival ends with the immersion of the image of Lord Bishwokarma in a river or pond.
