Kathmandu, March 1:
The Valley Traffic Police Office (VTPO) today made it mandatory for motorcycle owners to present the blue book for getting it repaired at a workshop. “We have informed the workshop mechanics in this connection,” said Senior Superintendent of Police, Surendra Bahadur Pal.
He informed the media about the new rule at a press conference organised by the VTPO. He said that the VTPO is going to launch a campaign to make drivers follow rules with regard to stoppage points in order to reduce traffic jams and accidents.
He said that the VTPO had asked the concerned body to establish 110 vehicle stoppage points within the Valley as per the drivers’ demand for pick up and drop facilities.
“But despite the establishment of stoppage points, drivers are still seen picking and dropping passengers at random, thereby causing traffic jams and accidents,” Pal said. The drivers are thus knowingly violating the rules.
The VTPO has given a week’s ultimatum to drivers to follow traffic rules. After the stoppages were established, drivers were asked not to pick and drop passengers at any given point.
According to the VTPO, since the past week, 4,203 drivers have been punished. During the week, the VTPO collected Rs 1,095,875 as revenue.
