Bolivian and Indian nationals held with 2.7kg Cocaine from Thamel
KATHMANDU: Police on Sunday said that two foreign nationals were arrested in possession of 2.7 kilo gram of Cocaine from a hotel in Thamel.
Issuing a statement today, Narcotics Control Bureau said 27-year-old Adhemar Anez Lopez with Bolivian passport numbered A962231 and 59-year-old Qamar Jahan with Indian passport numbered H3791750 were arrested yesterday.
A sleuth deployed from the Narcotic Control Bureau of Nepal Police seized 2.7 kilo gram of Cocaine hidden inside a blue suitcase in the form of false bottom, it said in the statement.
After a long investigation, police finally apprehended Bolivian national Lopez who was handing over the consignment to an Indian national Jahan at a hotel in Thamel.
Lopez travelled to Nepal via Lapaz, Brazil and Dubai while, Jahan arrived to Kathmandu from Dehli.
Speaking to THT Online over the phone, official at the Narcotic Control Bureau informed that the police are preparing to file a case against the duo under the Narcotics Durgs (Control) act 1976.
The suspects have been kept at the Teku-based Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu and will be presented before the court after the Dashain festival, the police official at the NCB informed.
Meanwhile, police said the further investigation is underway.
Cocaine, also known as coke, is a strong stimulant mostly used as a recreation drug. It is commonly snorted, inhaled as smoke, or as a solution injected into a vein.
It is a powerfully addictive stimulant drug made from the leaves of the coca plat native to South America.
According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime the estimated market value of Cocaine is worth $ 70 billion in the world.
As of late, Tribhuvan International Airport has been used as a transit point by the human traffickers, gold smugglers and drug paddlers for supplying their goods in the international markets.
