Bomb goes off near election rally in Lagankhel, no one injured

An election rally of the left alliance had just started at Lagankhel Bus Park and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli was addressing the event when the incident occurred at around 2:45pm. The incident site is around 200 metres from the bus park. Quoting eyewitness, police said the bomb went off with a massive bang. The assembly was halted for a few minutes following the incident.

SSP Ganesh Aier, in-charge of Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel, said the IED was planted in the backyard of Batuk Bhairav-based Namuna Machhindra Secondary School. Locals disposed garbage at the site as the school has not been in operation for the past six months.

Some windowpanes of the school were shattered due to the impact of explosion, said SSP Aier. The explosion has also left behind a crater on the ground. Nepali Army personnel had examined the incident site. However, no one was hurt in the incident. Police said they had launched an investigation to establish whether those responsible behind the blast were trying to target the election assembly. No one has claimed the responsibility for the blast.

Police have not made any arrest in connection with the incident. Earlier, a bomb was detonated in Changunarayan Municipality-10, Bhaktapur, on November 25.

Bomb explodes in school premises in Lalitpur

KATHMANDU: A bomb went off in a school premises in Lalitpur district this afternoon.

According to SSP Ganesh Aire, the bomb exploded at Namuna Machhindra Secondary School at Batuk Bhairav in the district. "The bomb was planted in the backyard of the school where garbage were disposed."

"The window glasses were shattered. No human casualties were reported," he added.

"They heard a big sound in the backyard at around 2:45 pm and immediately informed the police about it. We are looking into the case," he further stated.

We are at the incident site and still investigating into the matter, added Aire.
