Bomb hoax haunts TIA
Kathmandu, September 29:
Tension reigned supreme at the Tribhuwan International Airport today afternoon after a report started doing the rounds that a Jet Airways’ Kathmandu-bound aircraft had a bomb in it. However, it turned out to be a hoax. Earlier, security and emergency units at the TIA, including the Royal Nepalese Army’s bomb disposal search team, upon receiving information that the JAI 4107 Boeing 737 had a bomb in it, searched for the explosive and confirmed that the claim was just a hoax. “On receiving information that the Jet Airways’ flight had a bomb, RNA’s bomb disposal search team immediately swung into action,” said Brigadier General Deepak Gurung, spokesperson of the RNA.
The team, according to him, got the passengers out of the aircraft at the Tribhuwan International Airport and then isolated the plane on the runaway and searched for the bomb. However, there was no such bomb on board the aircraft, he said. The aircraft had touched the ground with 115 passengers and nine crew members from Delhi. Triratna Manandhar, TIA manager, said all security and emergency teams, including security forces, fire control and rescue operation units were involved in the operation. “The aircraft was allowed to continue its regular flights from 5 pm onwards after a team of experts concluded that there were no explosive devices and bombs in it,” he said.
