The Constitutional Council has recommended Supreme Court Justice Dr Manoj Sharma for appointment as the next Chief Justice.
A meeting of the Council, chaired by Prime Minister and its Chair Balendra Shah, endorsed Sharma's name on Thursday. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal confirmed that the recommendation has been forwarded for the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
The recommendation will now be sent to the Parliamentary Hearing Committee for endorsement before formal appointment.
If approved, Sharma will become the 33rd Chief Justice of Nepal.
