Book on 12-point pact out

Kathmandu, March 3:

A book on how, where and who signed the 12-point understanding between the seven-party alliance and Maoists on November 22 last year was released in Kathmandu today.

Written by journalist Subash Devkota, the book titled Loktantra ko Bato (Road to Democracy) was jointly released by Nepali Congress (NC) leader Arjun Narsingh KC and CPN-UML leader K P Oli.

According to Devkota, he has tried to encompass every detail on how the understanding was signed, who were the major players and why was the venue changed from Rolpa to Delhi, among others. He said he compiled the events following several meetings and discussions with the leaders concerned.

“Initially, Maoist supremo Prachanda had proposed Rolpa as venue for the signing of the pact but after NC boss GP Koirala and UML general secretary expressed security concerns, the deal was made in New Delhi,” Devkota said. Releasing the book, NC leader KC said there cannot be peace and stability unless the Maoists do not come to the mainstream. UML leader Oli said autocracy is on the verge of collapse.
