Boost science for progress: Prez

KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav said today that the exploitation of science and technology, mainly physics, was necessary to curb poverty and speed up the nation’s development.

Inaugurating the four-day ‘International Conference on Frontiers of Physics’ here today, the President said studies of science was interrelated to human society. “The scientific researches should focus on the development of the country,” Dr Yadav added.

German scientist Klaus Bohn Klitzing, a Nobel laureate, said physics, which is a basic science for development, had solved many problems the world has faced.

He also hoped that the conference would contribute to good international connection on scientific researches. Klitzing also said Nepal had progressed in terms of science and technology as compared to the past.

“The ethical use of science and technology could play a pivotal role in nation development,” he added.A total of 123 scientists from 15 countries, including the USA, Japan, Germany, Pakistan, Taiwan, India, Bangladesh and Nepal, are participating in the conference.
