KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 26

The bus rapid transit service on the Ratnapark-Suryabinayak route, which was halted after running for a month, has resumed today.

Uddhav Prasad Rijal, Director General of the Department of Transport Management, stated that buses will depart for the Ratnapark-Suryabinayak route every three minutes starting at 8:30 am daily from today.

He added, 'Thirty-six buses will operate on the Ratnapark-Suryabinayak route, running regularly from 8:30 am today.' Before this, twenty-five buses operated to and from the two destinations.

Director General Rijal mentioned that a schedule has been prepared, specifying that the bus service will run from 8:30 am to 10:30 am and from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at three-minute intervals. He noted that additional buses have been introduced to enhance the effectiveness of the bus rapid transit service, and the schedule has been slightly modified.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport launched this service on September 20, 2023, coinciding with Constitution Day, aiming to provide convenience for commuters to reach their destinations quickly. However, the service was suspended within a month of its operation due to ineffectiveness.

Rijal claimed that buses operating under the bus rapid transit on the Ratnapark-Suryabinayak route take 45 minutes, while other public buses take one and a half hours. He also mentioned that Traffic Police will facilitate the smooth flow of buses on this route, allowing them to bypass congested crossroads such as Maitighar, Koteshwar, Jadibuti, among others.

The bus fare for the Ratnapark-Suryabinayak route in the bus rapid transit service remains the same as what other public buses charge, according to the Transport Management Department in Minbhawan.
