CA regulations to be ready by next week

Kathmandu, September 2:

The Constituent Assembly (CA) Regulations Drafting Committee, headed by Narayan Man Bijukchhe, today started discussion on the all-important document.

“We are planning to submit the draft to the CA next week,” said the coordinator. However, the panel is yet to take a final decision whether 15 or more members will be a part of the constitution drafting committee.

“This number may be insufficient to prepare the draft of the constitution,” admitted Bijukchhe.

As of now, there is a difference of opinion between the political parties on who will head the committee.

Former PM Girija Prasad Koirala had nominated ex-Chief Justice Bishwo Nath Upadhyay to the CA so that he could be appointed as the head of the committee. Upadhyay has refused to take oath as a CA member. But the ruling Maoists want its own member to head the panel. A source said Maoists want Khimlal Devkota to head the panel.
