Cabinet appoints new faces

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting on Wednesday endorsed Chatra Man Singh Gurung as the new Army Chief. Gurung's endorsement from the cabinet will be sent to the President for final approval. Singh will be assuming office from September 9. The cabinet decided to extend the tenure of Brigader General Bikash Bikram Shah and Colonels Krish Shumsher JBR and Tej Man Singh Basnet. The cabinet has appointed Hari Babu Chaudary as a member-secretary of the National Sport Council. The cabinet has also decided to evaluate its 100 days performance period.


The cabinet also appointed Ram Chandra Adhikari as the chairman of Singha Durbar Baidyakhana and Dr. Kedar Chandra Sharma as the advisor of the Science and Technology Ministry.


A three-member committee chaired by Minister for Education will be recommending the names for vacant post of the Education Service Commission.


Though the cabinet was expected to hold discussions on the Vice President's oath controversy, no discussions were held on this issue, informed spokesperson of the government Shankar Pokhrel. The cabinet has also decided to bring relief packages for the flood-hit victims in the eastern Nepal, added Pokhrel.
