KATHMANDU, JULY 22
The government has endorsed the agreement reached with victims of exploitative lending practices (meter-byaj) and decided to immediately invalidate fraudulent documents linked to such cases.
A Cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday approved the agreement signed with the victims on July 17, government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said.
The Cabinet also decided to form a judicial inquiry commission to investigate the self-immolation case of Ganesh Nepali. The panel will be headed by former High Court judge Keshav Prasad Bastola.
Among other decisions, the meeting designated High Court Tulsipur Judge Basudev Acharya as Chairperson of the Special Court and High Court Surkhet Judge Dipendra Adhikari as Chairperson of the Labour Court.
The Cabinet appointed Shailesh Raj Kunwar as Administrator of the Guthi Sansthan and approved incentives aimed at boosting the aviation sector. Regular international flights operating from Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport will receive a 100 percent waiver on parking, landing and navigation charges, along with a 50 percent discount on ground handling fees until mid-September 2028.
In another relief measure, the government decided to fully waive the Education Equity Fee and Health Equity Fee under Section 18(1) of the Economic Act, 2083.
