Several students were arrested during a protest at Tribhuvan University (TU) on Thursday as the country's oldest university marked its 67th anniversary.

The arrests occurred when students of the Free Students' Union (FSU) protested against Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel, who is also the university's Pro-Chancellor, during the main event at the central office in Kirtipur.

It has been reported that students were prevented from attending the programme and were detained when they attempted to meet the minister to demand the calling of a Senate meeting.
