Call to make education service-oriented

Educationists today stressed the need to uplift the standard of government schools to produce competitive manpower and make educational sector service-oriented.

Speaking at a function organised to mark the silver jubilee of Little Angles’ School, Dr Suresh Raj Sharma, vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University, said the education sector has many challenges to overcome.

Chief Secretary Dr Bimal Koirala said the government has given top priority to provide basic and primary education. “The standard of government schools too need to be strengthened to provide quality education to the students.”

Harish Chandra Yadav, Lalitpur’s District Education Officer, said private schools should provide scholarships to underprivileged children.

Umesh Shrestha, principal of the school, said there is a need to uplift private schools to ensure quality of education. Shrestha said private schools should concentrate on need-based education as per the demand of the country.

Meanwhile, the Little Angles’ School today announced to provide free education to selected students from 10 conflict-hit districts. Shrestha said the districts are yet to be finalised.

The selected students will be provided 50 per cent scholarship in each level from primary to higher secondary levels.

“Besides, SLC toppers from the selected districts will be provided free higher education for two years,” he announced.

The Little Angles’ School was established in 1981 with 60 students and five teachers. At present, it has 12,500 students and 1,250 teachers.
