Campaign to spread cultural awareness
Kathmandu, January 31:
Raktim Kranti Janasanskritik Pariwar (RKJP) today announced its protests against the western ‘invasion’ into Nepali culture and for preserving the indigenous culture. The RKJP also said it would launch a weeklong nation-wide campaign to promote Nepali culture from February 13.
Mahendra Mainali, coordinator of the RKJP, said they would destroy low grade CDs, DVDs and literatures from February 2 to 29 in order to preserve native culture.
“The RKJP will begin wall-painting and distributing pamphlets and other collaterals to inform people about our campaign on February 3. We are organising nation-wide cultural awareness campaign from February 13 to 19,” he added.
Speaking at a press conference organised at the Reporters Club here, Mainali accused the leaders of different political parties of living luxurious life and said “foreign powers are fast encroaching upon the local culture”.
Mainali said that leaders had failed to work in accordance with the expectation of the general
public and that the leaders were indifferent to their issues.
“Nepali people are yet to feel the change though the country has been ruled by the leaders of people’s war,” he said.
Mainali claimed that the ethnic culture of different caste and creeds are gradually losing their values due to the ill-practices, and blamed that juvenile delinquency was increasing in the country because of the influence of western literatures and culture.
He also requested all to stop producing obscene CDs and warned to seize and destroy such CDs.
The RKJP is organising its first national conference on March 28 and 29 in Kathmandu.
