Cancer patient pleads for funds
Kathmandu, December 13:
Yam Prasad Chaulagain, 44, of Pokhari Chour VDC-9 of Kavre district virtually burnt over Rs 3,00,000 for the treatment of his ailing right eye, but to no avail. Fearing that cancer infecting the eye may spread to other parts of his body, doctors removed the infectious eye.
These days, Chalaugain, accompanied by two students, narrates his woeful tale to all and sundry from Sundhara. One Rajiv Bhandary of Sindhupalchowk narrates the woeful tale of Chaulagain through a mike bought with the donated money.
“He underwent radiotherapy at the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital. Now he is undergoing chemotherapy there. Once chemotherapy is over, he will go for the transplantation of a new eye,” said Umesh, a student from Chaulagain’s neighbourhood. He said Chaulagain will need another two lakh rupees to transplant a new eye. “Chaulagain has spent all his property in the treatment of his eye. He has been forced to beg for the continuation of his treatment,” Umesh said.
“People have been donating money generously,” he said. Most of the passers-by were seen donating money to the man while they showed indifference to the plight of other people begging for money.
