Nepali bags UN award

KATHMANDU: UN-HABITAT Nepal on Thursday awarded Cheten Lama, a sixth grader at Daffodil Public School in capital with Children’s Future Award for standing first in the 9th World Habitat Day Children’s Drawing Contest held in Japan on 5th October. Girija Prasad Gorkhaly, deputy director, Urban Development and Building Construction, handed over the award. Some 758 children from seven Asian countries participated in the competition.

Call for reservation

Kathmandu: A group of women activists on Thursday lobbied for the amendment of Local Self Governance Act 1999 demanding fifty per cent reservation for women in government offices. Laxmi Shrestha of women pressure group said the quota was a must for empowerment.
