Inmate killed

KATHMANDU: An inmate serving jail term in a robbery case succumbed to life-threatening head injury at Patan Hospital after an inmate threw a brick at him in Nakkhu Prison, Lalitpur, on Thursday. According to the police, they had engaged in heated discussion over mutual misunderstanding before pouncing on each other. The deceased has been identified as Bhakta Bahadur Lama who was attacked by Tira Lama, a murder

convict.

Birahi wins election

KATHMANDU: The Constitutional and Judicial Journalists' Forum elected its chairman on Friday. Yam Birahi, a reporter of Annapurna Post, will be the new chairman of the nine-member working committee. Kumar Vivekananda Mishra of Gorkhapatra was nominated vice-president, Bimal Gautam of Republica general secretary and Dilli Acharya treasurer.

Motorcycle rally

KATHMANDU: A motorcycle rally is being organised on Saturday to promote Mahayagya to be held at the Mahalaxmi Temple, Chhaling, in Bhaktapur from April 14-20. According to the Mahayagya Sampadan Samitee, the Mahayagya is being organised for sustainable peace, Hindu religion and security of the nation. According to the organisers, the motorcycle rally will begin at 10:30 am from Bhuvaneshwori at Pashupatinath and will traverse Gaushala, Chabahil, Bouddha, Jorpati, Sankhu, Palubari, Shreeban, Kharipati, Kamalbinayak, Sallaghari, Thimi, Pepsi Cola, Koteshwor, New Baneshwor and Old Baneshwor, before arriving at Pashupatinath.

Nurses' body polls

KATHMANDU: The election of Nursing Association of Nepal has been scheduled for April 13. Pramila Dewan is running for the post of president. A group led by her today made public their memorandum assuring of combating the drawbacks that have been seen in the nursing service. Addressing a press conference, Dewan said they would work for making the nursing sector more reputable and would help for eradicating the corruption seen in the field. "We will work for implementing the agreement that has been signed with Ministry of Health and Population," assured Dewan, adding that they will also work for maintaining quality nursing education throughout the country.

Polio campaign

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) is organising nationwide campaign for administering the anti-polio drops to the under five-year-old children. The campaign, which is aimed at eradication of the disease from the country, has been scheduled for April 10 and May 15. The campaign, which is estimated to cost around Rs 276,698,870, is being assisted by international donor agencies including WHO, USAID and UNICEF.
