Casino Venus opens amid protests by Youth Force
Kathmandu, December 30:
Alleges only Maoists cadres were recruited.
Casino Venus of The Malla Hotel in Lainchour started its operations yesterday despite the protest by the CPN-UML- affiliated Youth Force.
Youth Force cadres had protested in Lainchour area when the casino was preparing for its grand opening last evening.
They claimed that the casino had only recruited Maoist cadres and did not let other youths to compete for the jobs.
The YF claims that it does not want casinos to be established since they promoted gambling among Nepalis.
Meanwhile Gyan Kumar Shrestha of the YF claimed that the Maoists had given the licence to the casino after the management had agreed to recruit the Maoist cadres.
“As conscious citizens we had organised the protest programme last evening to let the public know about Casino Venus goings on,” Shrestha added.
A central member of the Democratic National Youth Force alleged that the casino had recruited more than 200 cadres of the Young Communist League and had refused to recruit any of the YF members.
He said talks were on with the management to provide jobs for the YF members in the casino.
Shrestha said the YF would devise a mechanism to stop the casinos from letting in Nepalis.
Kishor Silwal, managing director of the Casino Venus, did not respond to The Himalayan Times calls despite several attempts to get his comments over the issue.
