CEC Yadav complains of govt's non-cooperation for polls
KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav said the government was not cooperating with the constitutional body to make sure that the local elections would be held as planned.
Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu today, Yadav said the government was yet to forward enacted election-related laws to the Commission.
"The President has already certified the Election Commission Act and the Voters' List Act," he said, "But, the Commission has not got them. So, how can we work?"
Likewise, the government failed to fix dates for the elections even after it officially wrote to the Commission to begin preparations for the same, he lamented.
Meanwhile, Yadav demanded that the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission's report should be finalised as soon as possible if the parties wanted to hold the local polls by mid-June.

But, the government and the parties were not cooperating accordingly, he complained.
The government was yet to form a Constituency Delineation Commission to fix borders of constituencies for the provincial and the federal polls, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Yadav informed that the Election Commission was mulling over using electronic voting machines in the polls as it would ensure fairness, transparency and credibility.
