KATHMANDU, JANUARY 24

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested the former managing director of Nepal Telecom, Sunil Paudel, and the former executive director of Security Printing Centre, Bikal Paudel, on charges of corruption.

The anti-graft body apprehended them based on accusations of illegally stashing money in foreign banks, as reported by CIAA Spokesperson Narahari Ghimire.

"The CIAA had already filed a case against them for accumulating property illegally. Additionally, they were found working as consultants for international organizations while still serving in the Nepal government.

The CIAA further revealed that Bikal Paudel had obtained permanent work permission from the US. He was apprehended on Wednesday to prevent the destruction of evidence and to ensure he does not leave the country.

"Spokesperson Ghimire stated that the arrest would help intensify the investigation."
