CIAA asks govt to warn secy over phone scam

Kathmandu, February 28:

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today asked the government to warn the secretary of Ministry of Information and Communications, Mukunda Sharma Paudel, over his involvement in the massive illegal import of mobile phones last year. “We have written to the cabinet secretariat to warn him and also to take action against some other officials,” a CIAA commissioner told this daily. According to him, Sharma was warned not to fall foul again. The CIAA has charged Sharma with pressurising the Tribhuvan International Airport personnel to release some people who were arrested in connection with illegally importing 1566 sets of mobile phones through Surya Concern Pvt Ltd.

The CIAA also told the government not to give any increments to Under Secretary of the Ministry, Kosh Kumar Nembang, technical officer Rajiv Kumar Gupta Rauniyar for the next instalments. The CIAA also advised the government not to give salary increments to the Under Secretary of the Tribhuvan International Custom Office, Punyaman Kayastha, and section officer Kedar Prasad Paneru.
