CIAA not to deviate from duty, says acting chief Deep Basnyat
KATHMANDU: The Acting Chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Deep Basnyat, on Sunday said the constitutional body would not deviate from its duty in the changed context.
He said the Commission would accept the Parliament's decision over the impeachment motion registered against the Commission Chief Lok Man Singh Karki.
The Commissioner held a meeting with the Commission officials today and told them to carry out constitutional and legal duties with loyalty and integrity, the CIAA spokesperson Ganesh Raj Karki informed in a press statement.
"Saying that the whole Commission family was pained by the impeachment motion against the Commission leadership," the statement read, "The Acting Chief (however) said there would not be any deviation in the effectiveness of its performance regarding the constitutional responsibilities due to a specific incident."
Likewise, Basnyat said the Commission would accept the Parliament's decision over the impeachment motion as the motion had already entered the House and the legislative body had already begun constitutional procedures in response to it.
Meanwhile, the acting boss of the anti-corruption body also directed the officials to disseminate information related to its investigations to media and the public only via the spokesperson or the information officer, according to the statement.
In response, the CIAA Secretary Rajendra Kishor Kshetry said the staff would comply with the instructions delivered by the acting chief.
Other CIAA commissioners Nabin Kumar Ghimire, Ganesh Raj Joshi, Raj Narayan Pathak and Sabitri Thapa Gurung were also present on the occasion.
Basnyat had taken the charge of constitutional body after its chief Lok Man Singh Karki went into automatic suspension following registration of the impeachment motion against him at the House last week.
The House is scheduled to begin discussions on the motion on Tuesday.
