CIB arrests fugitive murder convicts after 23 years

Kathmandu, July 14

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has nabbed two persons, who had been absconding since they were convicted of a murder.

SP Meera Chaudhary said Sachindra Yadav, 46, and Kari Yadav, 45, of Saptari district were arrested from their rented room in Balaju yesterday. The Supreme Court had sentenced the duo to life in prison, along with confiscation of their entire property, on March 20, 2006, in absentia.

According to CIB, five persons, including Sachindra and Kari, had hacked Jogendra Mandal, a local of then Pakari VDC in Saptari to death on March 4, 1995 in a dispute over mutual misunderstanding. The other convicts were already arrested.

SP Chaudhary said Sachindra and Kari were sent to Central Jail, Sundhara, to execute the court verdict today.  The law enforcement agency has stepped up crackdown on convicts, who were either sentenced to jail or fined or both but have been absconding.

Most convicts who are under surveillance of police are forgers, banking offenders, fraudsters, human and drug traffickers, murderers, rapists and kidnappers. According to the CIB, the operation was aimed at tracking down the fugitives who have been contributing to the culture of impunity in the country.
