KATHMANDU, JUNE 17

The Special Court has ordered former Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Sanjiv Gautam, to be remanded in judicial custody pending trial over alleged irregularities in the construction of the Pokhara Regional International Airport.

A joint bench of judges Narayan Prasad Poudel, Hemanta Rawal and Dilliraj Shrestha issued the order after finding sufficient grounds to continue investigations.

Gautam has been accused of causing financial losses by approving inflated project costs, including an alleged irregularity involving US$2.8 million and an additional Rs 503.44 million linked to the airport's Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract.

The court said Gautam would remain in custody until further judicial proceedings determine the case.
