CID man beaten up, 3 kidnapping cases reported

Kathmandu, March 20:

The Maoists severely beat up police sub-inspector Krishna Khanal of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) at the Police Headquarters at Khusibu last night.

Police said that a team from the CID had gone to Khusibu Town Planning in course of a search operation. “Some members of the team returned in an office vehicle. But, Khanal was returning on his motorcycle when the Maoists beat him up accusing him of not taking permission before entering their area,” said SSP Shushil Bar Singh Thapa, spokesperson of the Nepal Police. Locals brought him to the Bir Hospital when they found him unconscious on the road.

Meanwhile, three complaints against kidnapping were registered with the police today. Homnath Luitel, local of Maitidevi, was kidnapped by unidentified persons on Sunday from his residence at Maitidevi. According to the family, the kidnappers today called them and asked for a ransom of Rs 400,000 for his release.

The police said Karma Ghale Sherpa, 18, of Manang, was kidnapped from Kimadol last evening by a group of four unidentified persons. “He used to go out in the night and return on time. However, he didn’t come home yesterday after the four took away him,” Balaju police quoted his family members as saying.

At Kuleshwor, camera mechanic Ram Tandulkar was kidnapped by four unidentified persons yesterday. “One customer had given him a camera to repair some days ago. Yesterday, two persons came to take back the camera. As misunderstanding broke out between Tandulakar and two customers, the customers left the place. After some hours, four persons came and took him away,” the police quoted a FIR.

SSP Shushil Bar Singh Thapa said that police have intensified search operations to nab the culprits.
