Civil society team to meet Chief Secy Ghimire today

Kathmandu, April 3:

A nine-member team of civil society will meet chief secretary Dr Bhojraj Ghimire tomorrow

to discuss effective mobilisation of security personnel in the run-up to the Constituent Assembly polls.

The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist have called the civil society to monitor election-related violence and crimes. Yesterday, the team met a three-member panel of the NC, UML and Maoists, which was formed to probe into confrontations in Rasuwa and Dadeldhura districts.

Sushil Pyakurel, a member of the civil society, said they will discuss with the chief secretary ways to effectively mobilise security personnel in all constituencies.

He said confrontations and clashes had been taking place though top leaders of the three parties had reached a 10-point deal to stop such incidents. The team had specially drawn attention of Maoist leader Mohan Baidya towards his party’s involvement in most of the confrontations.

“We are trying our best to control such activities and instructed our cadres across the country not to create any hurdles for the cadres and candidates of other parties during election campaigns,” Baidya said. He said they were forging coordination with the NC and UML leaders to bring down such incidents.

UML standing committee member Amrit Kumar Bohara said the Maoists had flouted the agreement reached among the three parties on Tuesday. “What I feel is that the Maoist cadres are not under the control of their leadership,” Bohara said.
